At the end of August, parents and guardians attended a support workshop taken by Éirinn and Odhrán, which was designed to empower families to bring Irish into the heart of their homes—and it did just that.

Why It Mattered

For many parents and guardians, especially those who didn’t grow up speaking Irish, supporting their children’s language journey can feel daunting. This workshop aimed to bridge that gap by offering practical tools, emotional encouragement, and a sense of shared purpose. The message was clear: you don’t need to be fluent to make a difference.

What We Covered

The session included a short Irish language class which was led by Odhrán and attendees were asked for their input and phrases they wanted to learn, followed by a tasty treat and delicious drinks from Ellen at Grá Mór Coffee Cart. Éirinn then led the final session which included some suggestions for at-home activities and the resources including apps and books that are available for support.

Looking Ahead

The workshop was more than a one-off event—it was the beginning of a movement. We are now able to provide a 4-week block of Irish language classes based on Gaeilge in the home, beginning on Saturday 4th October from 10 - 11.30 am at Gaelscoil an tSeanchaí.

Final Thoughts

Language thrives when it’s lived—and that starts at home. This workshop reminded us that every phrase spoken, every game played, and every moment shared in Irish is a step toward a richer, more connected future for our children and our culture.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh to everyone who attended and helped make the workshop a success. Let’s keep the cúpla focal flowing!
